Episode 47
The Great Escape!
They didn’t sleep much that night.
At breakfast, everyone kept their heads down while Gecko whispered with one of the gaolers. Polly had a coughing fit and everyone thought it was real.
The gaolers left: the door clanged shut. Now they just had to wait for lunch.
Gecko cleared his throat. “We have a slight change of plan,” he said, peering from his cell. “We’re going to have to improvise.”
“Why?” Vee asked, apprehensive. “What’s happened?” Everyone came to the bars of their cell.
“The gaolers are all going on strike. The whole prison’s going into lockdown right after lunch.”
“Oh. So much for the plan, then. We have to postpone.”
“Except we might not get another chance,” Gecko said. “Hank suspects they’ll bring in strike-breakers. He might not be back for a while, if at all.”
“Fabulous,” Vee said. “How are we going to get out of here now?”
